What what a change -- Hugoton to Manhattan! The change has brought new challenges, friends, experiences, and thoughts. One of the major differences is that I'm selfishly doing what I really want to do -- study theatre.
Interacting with literature via theatre is exciting. I'm learning how to tell stories -- simply put.
Teaching Public Speaking has been a challenge. I am less busy this semester so I hope to devote more time preparing for my classes. Last semester I didn't know what I was doing most of the time and it really showed. There's only so much you can act out until people start noticing that you didn't do enough research. My Shakespeare class, last semester, taught me that. Shakespeare requires so much work! I truly grew in my appreciation for it.
This semester I am going to be directing two one acts. I'm starting with The Boys Next Door by Tom Griffin. I remember trying to act out a scene from it my freshman year of high school with a friend. It was terrible.
I've been hanging out with theatre people this year. I've spent many a nights DDing and staying up late enough to have breakfast the following day. It's been a little more exciting than Hugoton or Gillette for that matter. It is nice to have friends that are my age and interested in the things that I am interested in.
I'm able to play guitar and sing at church every now and then.
I sure do miss my students and all of the Spanish speaking down in Hugoton. Maybe I can go work in a theatre in Mexico City or something. That would be ideal!
